Julian Wagner
Guitar, Bass, Piano, Drums
Julian is a graduate of Worcester State University with a BA in Visual & Performing Arts, minoring in Composition & Music Technology. Having picked up piano and drums around the age of 5, he has been devoted to music-making for nearly his whole life. At 8 years old, Julian learned he had perfect pitch; he could name any note just by hearing it. This allowed him to spend a lot of time learning by ear, to the point where he can now figure out and transcribe nearly anything he hears--which proves incredibly helpful in his teaching.
Julian is a Boylston resident and Tahanto Regional alumni. He spent every year from the fourth grade until his senior year of college participating in school bands and ensembles. At Tahanto, he mainly studied electric bass, upright bass, timpani, and percussion, and can sight-read fluently for those instruments. In his own studies, between private lessons and personal endeavors, he has become fluent at reading for piano and guitar, and he most often writes out parts for his students in either sheet music or guitar tablature. However, Julian understands when students prefer learning by demonstration or by ear rather than reading--as did he growing up--and he will always adapt to a student’s needs.
Julian plays guitar for the Worcester indie/alternative rock act Peregrine. He also plays bass for his former professor Carlos Odria’s Latin jazz trio. He is also a local “utility guy” when it comes to gigs, filling in on guitar, bass, and drums for various artists in the New England music scene.
Julian has been with Keith’s Music House since the summer of 2018, beginning with the summer Rock Sessions and then pivoting to instruction in guitar, bass, drums, piano, and ukulele. It is his mission to help others to pursue music and see the benefits that music-making can have in one’s life.
